I Did My First Podcast, And It Wasn't About Design
The show is about careers and people's origin story. It's not every day that you can go back in time, but it gave me a chance to reflect on the roundabout way I got into design, and why I stayed.
I’m a huge fan of podcasts. I especially like diving deep into history, laughing alongside some of the funniest people on the planet, or learning about the craft of creatives.
If you’d like to support my work, you can take out a premium subscription (just $5 per month - or a nice cup of coffee).
There are also plenty of podcasts that are a big waste of time. These are often idle chatter — the equivalent of morning talk radio shows — or worse, self-promotion disguised as information. Stay away from these; they’re a time suck with little value add.
The ones I like most do one of 3 things (the best do all 3): make me laugh, see the world in a different way, or help me learn something new.
The podcast format is also great for niche interests, where the hosts are themselves experts talking with other experts. You can nerd out on so many things that - dare I say - it’s pretty cool.
This particular podcast was with Tammy Gooler Loeb, a career coach based in Boston and author of the highly rated book Work from the Inside Out. We dig into the value of a beginner’s mindset, managing a career in tech, curiosity as a superpower, my path into design, and more.
